"We are deeply, deeply committed to offering apprenticeship opportunities for people who can’t get jobs otherwise... and to get some recognition for it is fantastic."

At the fourth annual Leicester Mercury Business Awards, we were delighted to be named Apprentice Employer of the Year. The winners, across a range of catogories, were announced at a black tie-ceremony held at the Platinum Suite in Leicester hosted by Perrier Award-winning comedian Dominic Holland and Olympic badminton silver medallist turned motivational speaker Gail Emms MBE.

We would like to thank Leicester College for sponsoring the award, and to congratulate fellow nominees across all categories.

The following article appeared in the Leicester Mercury Business Awards supplement, published on 26 April:

Social housing provider emh group is committed to training young people, and in 2012 set up an academy to provide training and future job opportunities for its up-and-coming talent.

Over the past eighteen months, the academy has increased its prospectus to include pre-apprenticeship traineeships and an undergraduate scheme to complement its apprenticeship programme.

The company, via its academy, has continued to broaden the training it offers.

As well as continuing their studies and work experience, third year apprentices also mentor the new intake, acting as role models while developing their own management and leadership skills.

The students have also taken their skills out into the wider community, running workshops at local schools and colleges on CV writing and interviewing skills.

Last year, emh group was asked to join the National Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network, and was also an ambassador to the European Apprenticeship Alliance.

The group also recently played host to three young people taking part in world-class digital traineeships with the BBC, helping to equip them for future careers in media and broadcasting technology.

The emh group academy is committed to empowering young adults to become the best that they can be, and has provided the organisation with staff that have become highly respected and valued co-workers.

Chan Kataria, Chief Executive of emh group, said he was “ecstatic” at winning the Apprentice Employer of the Year award.

He said: “I think his is the best year we could have had. We are deeply, deeply committed to offering apprenticeship opportunities for people who can’t get jobs otherwise. This is our main business and to get some recognition for it is fantastic.”
