Aids and adaptations
Last year we spent £206,000 on adaptations for residents with a disability.
Being able to remain independent and safe in your own home when you have a disability is vital. If you are disabled or seriously ill we may be able to make adjustments to your home to make life a bit easier for you.
Whether you need grab rails for the bath, temporary ramps for your wheelchair or major work such as a level-access shower and kitchen alterations, call us. We may be able to share the cost with your local authority so you do not have to pay for the work.
Major adaptations (more than £1000)
We provide a major adaptations service (usually funding 50%) in partnership with local authorities who contribute the remaining 50% through a Disabled Facilities Grant. Tenants can access assessments by calling their local Adult Social Care office and referring themselves for an OT assessment.
We have limited funding for minor adaptations and currently are not considering any new requests this year. Residents, Occupational Therapists and other medical professionals are advised that they must now contact their local authorities to ask for the works to be carried out.
Minor adaptations include:
• Grab rails
• Wall to floor hand rails
• Lever taps
• Additional stair rails
• Flashing light systems
Please contact us for more details or to apply for an adaptation to your home.
If you are arranging for the work to be done privately, you must receive written permission from us before making any changes to your property. We will need details of the work you would like carried out, and who will making the changes.
