30 years in the business
"Right from the start Connelly Court has been part of the fabric of Chesterfield, providing support and independence to members of the community."
Steve Foster, Caretaker
Staff and residents of Connelly Court and Chester House in Chesterfield held a party on July 23 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of the scheme.
Prior to its conversion to 36 sheltered and 24 general needs homes, the building belonged to Robinson’s, the packaging company that is still based in the town. The original plans were drawn up between Chesterfield Borough Council and East Midlands Housing Association (as emh homes was then known), and the first residents received their keys in April 1988.
For the celebration Scheme Manager Julie Goodwin decorated the communal area with snippets of history of emh homes and Robinson’s and their place in the fabric of the area.
emh group Chief Executive Chan Kataria gave a short speech, and presented a token of thanks to caretaker Steve Foster, who has been there from the first day.
